Welcome to Flame Spirit

the shrine dedicated to Charizard (Lizardon)

This is Saya’s tribute to one of her favorite Pokemon: Charizard (Lizardon), if not her favorite of all. This pokemon has what she likes – fire and dragon-like.

I play pokemon from the moment they came out more than a decade ago, I started with Pokemon Red, where Charizard is the pokemon logo of the game. And from there it stayed always my favorite, even if in most games after it I couldn’t have it, because I never had someone with whom to trade.

Now in 2010 came out the new games: HeartGold and SoulSilver, making me become again obsessed with it. (Well I did spend lot of time on Diamond and Platinum, and well others too).

Anyway this mini (one paged) shrine is dedicated to Charizard from the games, as I’m not too much in to anime, even if Satoshi’s Charizard is one of the few decent characters.

Basic information

Charizard is the final evolution, that means that he is the last in the row. On level 16 Charmander evolves in Charmeleon, while Charmeleon on level 36 in Charizard.

  • Type:
  • Height: 1.7 m

  • Gender: M87.5% - F12.5%

    1/2x 1/4x Immune:

The first thing we should say about this pokemon is that, despite his dragon-looks, this pocket monster isn’t of a dragon type (even thou Lance has him as part of his Dragon team), still he is the only non dragon pokemon who is able to learn dragon moves.

We must admit that Charizard has a looks of a dragon, especially if we look at the European folklore/myths.

His looks are appealing to the eyes of who loves dragons, because the form is of a red dragon. He has two big wings that are blue on the insides (which his pre-evolutions doesn’t have), a tail with a flame on its tip and a long neck, sharp claws and a big round cream-colored belly. And on the most art that was made of this pokemon, we can see that his eyes are probably blue.

The name Charizard is composed by the word CHAR that should be the sound that the flame does (I read this one in more parts) and zard as from Lizard. While the Japanese version comes from Lizard and the ending don that is mostly used for dinosaurs names.

He has a big potential and his moves list is so long, that I probably won’t put the whole thing in this shrine.

Charizard gives the idea of power from the first moment it comes in to the game, as your pokemon or as the one used versus you in the battle. And I think they tried to show that in the anime too, as a stubborn pokemon, who is able to do great things, only if he thinks it’s worth too.

We can’t deny that probably, if not counting the legendary pokemon (who when in your hands aren’t so powerful, I can’t understand this thing – first I can’t take it down, then when I use it, it dies so easily), he is one of the most powerful around. He is able to learn the best moves, and not only fire related, but also flight (fly), ground (dig, earthquake), dragon (dragon claw) and naturally the fire related like fire blast and flamethrower. If it would be for me, I would always have one in my party, unfortunately, that’s so difficult to do, for me.

Game Locations

Unfortunatly for us, Charizard isn’t a pokemon that can be obtained easily in every game. Actually only a few of them have that possibility, outside the trade.

Red/Green and FireRed/Leaf Green – charmander is one of the starters, so if you choose it, you can evolve it at level 36 to a Charizard.
Yellow – charmander is found on the route 24 and 25
HeartGold/SoulSilver – in Kanto after collecting all 16 badges and defeating “Rival” at Mt. Silver
Pal Park – Field
Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Saphire/Emerald, Colosseum, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum – must Trade

Pokedex

Generation I

Red/Green: It spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. Known to cause forest fires unintentionally.
Yellow: When expelling a blast of super hot fire, the red flame at the tip of its tail burns more intensely.
Stadium: Its fiery breath reaches incredible temperatures. It can quickly melt glaciers weighing 10,000 tons.

Generation II

Gold: If Charizard becomes furious, the flame at the tip of its tail flares up in a whitish-blue color.
Silver: Breathing intense, hot flames, it can melt almost anything. Its breath inflicts terrible pain on enemies.
Crystal: It uses its wings to fly high. The temperature of its fire increases as it gains experience in battle.
Stadium 2: If Charizard becomes furious, the flame at the tip of its tail flares up in a whitish-blue color.

Generation III

Ruby/Sapphire: Charizard flies around the sky in search of powerful opponents. It breathes fire of such great heat that it melts anything. However, it never turns its fiery breath on any opponent weaker than itself.
Emerald: A Charizard flies about in search of strong opponents. It breathes intense flames that can melt any material. However, it will never torch a weaker foe.
Fire Red: Its wings can carry this Pokémon close to an altitude of 4,600 feet. It blows out fire at very high temperatures.
Leaf Green: It spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. It may cause forest fires by blowing flames.

Generation IV

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: It is said that Charizard's fire burns hotter if it has experienced harsh battles.
Heart Gold: If Charizard becomes furious, the flame at the tip of its tail flares up in a whitish-blue color.
Soul Silver: Breathing intense, hot flames, it can melt almost anything. Its breath inflicts terrible pain on enemies.

I so love Charizard - I would cheat to get him

As I already said, I love this pokemon because he is FIRE and DRAGON-like. In the beginning, when I first saw my charmeleon evolve like a decade and more ago, I was in awe looking at him. And then, it was so great, because believe me, the elite four of red and yellow was such a joke to do, they don’t make fire pokemon as time ago now – I do love Infernape, but hell, he is so easily taken down. I was hoping to get a charmander to evolve him in to Charizard in the newest games that came out: Heart Gold and Soul Silver, but unfortunately, I’ll be able to do so only when I beat like 16 gyms and who knows what else and thanks to GTS I got him (aside the fact of breeding eggs in platinum to send them to SS).

And now, I’m going back to my game, so if someone wants a charmander, contact me so we can trade. I can try to get you something in exchange.

The site

You should blame Destinie and Carolyn because they begun talking on twitter about how cool it would be to do a Pokemon marathon, now that Soul Silver and Heart Gold came out. I was indecided between: Charizard, Vulpix and Nidorina. But in the end, my favorite pokemon won - because he is the one I love the most!

The layout was made using a picture of game Charizard. Made in Photoshop CS4 and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. The credits are on the credit page. This site is in no way affiliated with nintendo andno copyright infrigement intendedand. It's just to show a fans apriciation of a subject.

The information aside what I've played and aside my personal comments were looked up in Bulbapedia, Legendary Pokemon, Serebii Pokedex and Veekun Pokedex.
